LOCAL clubs were strongly represented in the High Bridge Jewellers’ Bourton-on-the-Water 10- kilometre race which sold out in record time.

They tackled bitterly cold but still conditions which were more suited to the runners than to the spectators.

The popular event lived up to its reputation for fast times and the winner by a clear margin was John McDonnell from Luton AC in 30 minutes 45 seconds.

Dave Roper (Cheltenham and County Harriers) was second in 31.35, while the women’s race was claimed by Joanna Emery (Cirencester AC) in 36.42 with Beth Wynn (Cheltenham) runner-up in 38.00.

Many Bourton Roadrunners were marshalling on the day but those who raced did their club proud.

Dennis Walmsley was the first male veteran 50 and over in 34.42, breaking the age category race record.

Rob French continued to impress with his time 38.08 as did Brendan Caragher (39.34), Claire Harrison (43.17), Rob Humphris (43.38) and Alan Gibson (51.43).
