Robins fall to defeat at Poole

TITLE favourites Poole Town ended Evesham United’s five-match unbeaten run with a narrow 1-0 victory.

The Dolphins are now just two points behind Evo-Stik Southern Football League Division One South and West leaders Hungerford Town with four matches in hand.

Evesham went into the game missing several regulars through work commitments and injury, naming some inexperienced teenagers among the substitutes.

The kick-off was delayed by 15 minutes following the late arrival of the match officials and honours were even by half-time with neither side able to break the deadlock.

That all changed on 57 minutes when Adam Kelly fired the hosts ahead from close range despite a solid defensive display by the Robins.

This was the difference and earned Poole a league double with 13th-placed United hosting their title rivals Hungerford on Saturday (3pm).
