Carroll's Waving is winner at Lingfield
8:10am Friday 1st February 2013 in Sport
CROPTHORNE-based trainer Tony Carroll’s Waving landed a gamble under Luke Morris in the Lingfield Park Median Auction Maiden Stakes.
Backed into 9-2 despite doing little in a juvenile hurdle and two outings on the Flat since leaving John Oxx in the summer, the gelding produced a powerful finish to collect by two and threequarter lengths from Story Writer.
“We brought him over from Ireland and he just had a wind operation, which probably helped,” Carroll said of the four-year-old.
“He was bought to go hurdling and I think he could be quite a nice dual-purpose horse.
“We have been struggling with the weather. We couldn’t do anything so we took a few over to Wolverhampton to work.”
Two days later, Carroll returned to Lingfield for another victory, this time with Secret Millionaire (6-4 favourite) in the lingfieldpark.
Ridden by Jim Crowley, the six-year-old gelding quickened to lead inside the final furlong and won by one-anda- half lengths from Russian Bullet.
Fourteen-year-old Kinkeel finished at the rear in seventh with Matthew Batchelor in the Cheltenham trials day’s Victor Chandler Chase which was won by jumps star Sprinter Sacre.
