Wyck Hill named in Gold Cup

STOW-on-the-Wold trainer David Bridgwater has entered Wyck Hill in the Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup.

The nine-year-old beat impressive Sandown winner Katenko at Ascot and, with Venetia Williams handing her charge a Gold Cup place, Bridgwater took the same option.

Wyck Hill could run in the Racing Plus Chase at Kempton next month or the Sky Bet Chase at Doncaster and will be entered in the Grand National.

Bridgwater also has 2012 Gold Cup runner-up The Giant Bolster in the mix.

He said: “For a yard like ours to have two horses in the Gold Cup that we’ve brought up from scratch is amazing, but we don’t seem to get any credit because we aren’t fashionable.”

Bridgwater is confident The Giant Bolster can get his season back on track in the Argento Chase at Cheltenham on January 26.
