West interested in Robins top job
2:50pm Thursday 1st November 2012 in Sport
PAUL West has not ruled himself out of the running for the Evesham United job but will review the situation on a weekly basis.
The 42-year-old, in charge of the Robins for five years until last November, is back at the Jubilee Stadium club in a caretaker capacity following the resignation of Matt Clarke and assistant Rob Elmes.
He oversaw last weekend’s 3-0 Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West victory against Yate and will again be at the helm for Saturday’s visit of Bridgwater (3pm) and Tuesday’s trip to Cinderford (7.45pm).
Chairman Jim Cockerton is considering applicants for the job but West, who has also brought brother Leon back to the club as his number two, is keen to steady the ship and restore confidence in the players.
“I am not saying I don’t want the job, we will just see how it goes,” West said. “My commitments outside of football have to be with my family but we will take it on a week-to-week basis.
“Leon and I are more than happy to put our fishing and a bit of Rioja by the river Severn on hold!”
He added: “To manage the club was a great honour and that’s the situation at the moment.
“At this stage the role is to make sure the chairman and board feel they don’t need to rush into anything.
“We just need to settle things down. It’s never nice when a manager departs and players can lose their way.
“I want to try and give all these players the opportunity to perform and prove themselves.
There’s no better way than getting a result on Saturday.
“I want the players to be playing with a smile on their face.”
Evesham will be without striker Roland Agbor against Bridgwater as he starts a four-game ban, while fellow forward Mark Danks is due to begin a threegame suspension against Cinderford.
Keeper Dean Coleman is struggling with a groin problem and the club have also received seven-day approaches for several unnamed players. Midfielder Tom Warmer and striker Liam Hughes have left the club.
