ASTWOOD Bank Carnival committee members have selected the youngsters who will act as their carnival royalty for this year's extravaganza.

Sophia Cottam, who is 12, has been chosen as the carnival queen with 10-year-old Cassia Horner named as princess.

Eight-year-old Alex Lightfoot will be the carnival prince while Imogen Masters-Palmer, who is also eight, is appointed rosebud.

Selection was decided after staging a talent show where committee members were treated to a wide variety of skills ranging from singing, dancing and reading of original poetry.

Vicky Johnson, who led the royalty appointment team, said: "I'm only sorry that we couldn't crown them all. the standard set by all the entrants was of an extremely high standard and I just want to thank everyone who took the time and care to apply.

"It's always a great pleasure to let the lucky applicants know when they have been successful and to see the smiles and pride on their parents' faces."

The carnival takes place on July 14.

The procession will start from SE Davis at noon, and return to the carnival field at 2pm, where there will be several acts throughout the afternoon.
