A BURGLAR who raided Evesham businesses is now behind bars after he was recalled to prison for breaching his curfew conditions.

Richard Howlett, 35, who has links to Droitwich, Evesham and Malvern, was sentenced to five months and 18 days imprisonment at Worcester Magistrates Court for theft at a number of Evesham businesses.

These included a string of thefts and burglaries at Plan B Computers, B and M in Worcester Road, Evesham, stealing from Marks and Spencer in Evesham Shopping Park and one count of stealing from the Co-Op in Evesham High Street.

He was released on Tuesday April 3 to serve the remainder of his sentence in the community under home detention curfew. However he breached his curfew conditions and on Thursday April 19 was recalled to prison.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: “Richard Howlett was previously circulated as wanted by West Mercia Police having been recalled to prison.

"This morning detectives from the South Worcestershire Integrated Offender Management Team located and arrested Richard Howlett at an address in Evesham for the recall to prison and other matters.

"On Monday, April 23 staff from a retail store in Evesham contacted West Mercia Police having identified Richard Howlett who had fled from them having been identified.

"Staff confirmed to detectives that they had become aware of Richard Howlett following the recent appeal in the Evesham Journal and contacted West Mercia Police immediately.

"I would like to thank the members of the public that reported this sighting as it helped confirm his whereabouts to us and ensure that he was retuned to prison to serve the remainder of his sentence. ”
