HEREFORDSHIRE was well represented in this year's gruelling London marathon, the hottest on record.

There were many runners from across the county who completed the 26.2 mile course around the capital on Sunday.

More than 40,000 runners took part amid temperatures of 24.1C (75.3F) which were recorded in St James's Park, the Met Office said.

Shane Williams, aged 37, from Tupsley in Hereford finished in 4h59m22s. He raised £3,000 for Make a Wish Foundation UK. He is running the Hereford Half Marathon next month.

Amy Howell, 28, from St Weonards and Dave Stockbridge, 42, from Fownhope work together at the Wye Valley Group and have been completing various runs during the last three years. They raised £8,700 for The Starlight Children’s Foundation. Amy finished in 6h13m47s, while Dave did it in 6h13m46s.

Greg Bishop, 34, from London ran in memory of his friend Felicity Watkins, from Lyde, and raised nearly £6,000 for Caudwell LymeCo, which seeks to raise awareness and resources for fighting Lyme Disease. He completed the course in 4h46m38s.

Angie Havard, 53, from Hereford, raised £3,285 for the British Lung Foundation (BLF). She ran with her son Russel, 29, in honour of her husband Clive, who passed away from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in 2017. Angie completed it in 7h21m22s and Russel in 7h46m15s.

Andrew MacAusland, 58, from Ross-on-Wye raised £1,745.54 for SSAFA, a charity close to his heart as he served in the army for 18 years. He did it in 6h13m.

Michael Edwards ran the marathon for Bliss -a charity for babies born premature or sick, after his twin nephews were born early at 27 weeks last year. He raised just over £600 and did it in 5h19m36s.

Peter Flynn got over the line in 3h8m46s and raised well over £3,000 for UK Youth. Emma Louise Jenkins Harrison ran for St Michael’s Hospice and raised just over £1,000.

Hayley Park ran for Pancreatic Cancer UK and raised nearly £2,000. Kelly Bowen ran her first marathon under a running club place. Matt Reeve ran for CLIC Sargent. Michael Chandler ran again for Breast Cancer Haven, Hereford raising another £18,000+. Emma O'Hare ran yesterday for the charity SENSE and raised just over £2,300.

Sue Strachan, who lives in Staunton-on-Wye, is the only woman with dementia to have completed the London Marathon and she has raised more than £12,000 for Alzheimer’s Research. 

Emily Curtis from Hereford completed the course in 5h26m. She said: "I ran London Marathon in aid of St John Ambulance after they’ve looked after me when I collapsed at previous runs."

Jenny Davies and Sarah Norman finished in 5h37s and 5h42s respectively. They raised more than £4,500 for Megan Baker House.
