PLANS to build three apartment blocks in Dudley could go ahead, despite objections from residents and businesses.

Councillors will now decide if the plans will be passed after planning officers recommended the development - which would see 15 flats built on green space sloping upwards from Dibdale Road and Salop Street - is approved.

However objectors say the open space is heavily used as a play area for children and the development would lead to increased traffic noise and parking problems.

Blakes Sheds in Salop Street - a business that has been established for 30 years - fears its use of nail gun machines and a fork lift truck, combined with high noise levels during the summer months, would attract complaints from any future residents.

South Staffs Water has also voiced concerns that land it owns adjacent to the site will attract anti-social behaviour as it will no longer be open to public view from as the development will effectively enclose it.

But council officers have said that the area is well served by amenity green space and noise issues can be mitigated.

Members of Dudley Council’s Development Control Committee will now discuss the plans at their meeting tomorrow (Tuesday, August 14).
