VOLUNTEERS at Leasowes Walled Garden are holding a table top sale to raise much-needed funds towards the restoration of Halesowen’s 18th century gem.

The popular Grade I listed garden will be open for the event on both Saturday (August 11) and Sunday (August 12) between 9.30am and 2pm.

Visitors will need to park at The Leasowes’ main car park – just off Mucklow Hill – before taking a stroll through the park to the Walled Garden, which is situated next to Halesowen Golf Club.

Stanley Boffey, who has raised a considerable amount for the historic garden through the online ‘Leasowes Walled Garden Fundraising’ page on Facebook, said: “We have some wonderful items for sale donated by our great supporters and friends. We will also be selling tea and cakes.

“All the money raised will go towards improvements in the garden, of which there are many – the entrance gates are rotting, we have limited toilet facilities, we don't have electricity and the list goes on.”

The Halesowen Abbey Trust, the charity which owns the walled garden are thrilled by the volunteers’ dedication and ‘can do’ attitude.

Mick Freer, project co-ordinator for the garden and one of the original founders of Halesowen Abbey Trust, added: “Our volunteers are the life blood of the project.”

People from across the town are being urged to support the cause to save “a worthy jewel in Halesowen’s history and heritage”.
