WORCESTER MP Robin Walker is backing the city's entry into the Great British High Street awards.

The national awards celebrate the great work that is being done to revive, adapt and diversify high streets up and down the country, and this year’s awards are bigger than ever with a wide range of categories.

High streets are eligible to win up to £10,000 for their local community, plus on-the-ground support and events from the campaign street teams. Retailers, small businesses and the public will also have the opportunity to participate in a spend and win competition.

Worcester’s entry is being co-ordinated by Worcester City Council and the Business Improvement District (BID) team, and the focus is on promoting small businesses and the range of independent retailers that make up Worcester’s High Street.

The MP said: "The awards represent a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate everything Worcester High Street has to offer to locals and visitors alike. We have so many independent businesses to be proud of.

“The BID team do sterling work in supporting small businesses in Worcester, and I know they will be putting their all into championing the High Street in these awards."
