THE world-famous Oktoberfest comes to Worcester for the first time, promising a huge weekend of traditional Bavarian entertainment, food and drink.

The venue is Worcester's racecourse at Pitchcroft, and Oktoberfest opens to the public for its first session on Friday, from 6pm to 11pm.

And the fun continues on Saturday afternoon, from noon until 5pm, and then the evening session from 6pm to 11pm.

Sausages and pretzels will be on offer with a selection of vendors offering a variety of hot and cold traditional German food.

Behind the bar, festival-goers will find beer galore, as well as plenty of other drinks for those who feel like slamming down their stein at the thought of another beer.

The beer itself will be coming from one of the world's oldest breweries, ABK, which has centuries of history behind it, having been making beer in the Bavarian tradition in the town of Kaufbeuren since the year 1308.

Among the company's beers on offer at the event will be Hell, at five per cent ABV, described as a light, bright and very satisfying beer, and and Fels, weighing in at a hefty 5.8 five per cent ABV, decribed as a deep gold and packed with malt.

And traditional Bavarian oompah bands will be providing the best in German entertainment.
