A CLIMBING wall is a notable new addition to a popular parish festival.

The annual St Peter's Parish Festival takes place on Sunday in Power Park and also includes traditional favourites such as a fun dog show and a bouncy castle.

The dog show includes competitions for the prettiest bitch, handsomest dog, waggiest tail, prettiest eyes and dog the judge would most like to take home.

The fun family day, which has a new organiser this year, also features a new food village including sweet and savoury products and a relaxation zone including a massage parlour.

The mayor of Worcester, Cllr Steve Mackay will officially open the festival at 12.30pm although gates open to the public at noon.

Sian Archer, new festival organiser with support from St Peter's Parish Council has previously worked in events departments in Worcestershire, including at Worcestershire Cricket Club.

She stepped up to the role after former parish councillor Brenda Wheeler decided to hand over the reigns.

She said: "Preparations have gone really well and I just can't wait for Sunday to see how well it goes, as it is my first year.

"I am not sure how many people will come, hopefully more than last year."

The festival will run until 4pm and also features Monkeys in Motion, a group of young children who perform dance and music routines.

First Worcester Scouts will also be part of the festival on Sunday in addition to a number of stalls.

Visitors are reminded that this year they can park in Tesco car park, in St Peter's Drive and close to Power Park.

Prior to the festival, a competition for the pupils of Cherry Orchard Primary School to design a logo for the festival was run, with 10-year-old Alice Abraham winning.

Pupils worked on their designs during arts week and the winner was chosen by the St Peter's Parish Council chairman, Alan Tidy.
