MORE than £1,300 has been raised by a fundraiser who shaved his head for a charity which supports people with the incurable skin condition psoriasis.

Simon Collins, who lives in King Edmund Square, Worcester, will now grow a beard as part of his charity challenge which has so far raised a whopping £1331.60 for the Psoriasis Association.

The 49-year-old decided to take on the fundraiser because his partner's son Ewan suffers with the condition, which leaves his skin red, itchy and painful.

Mr Collins had his head shaved at home on Sunday, February 26, by Sue Tustin, while friends cheered him on.

"This year I’m going to 'turn my head upside down' by shaving off the hair and growing a beard in aid of Psoriasis Association," said Mr Collins, who is originally from Wales.

"Psoriasis is not a killer disease but one of those that sufferers have to live with every day. Around three per cent of people in the UK are affected by psoriasis. There is no cure just treatment options.

"Psoriasis not only has a physical impact on individuals but confidence and body image are affected.

"In Ewan's case his skin regenerates every two to three days. Often his skin is red, itchy, hot and painful. The appearance is similar to a burn. This covers 90 per cent of his body.

"Raising some money and supporting the Psoriasis Association will help the ongoing work of research and development into this debilitating disease."
