AN association which works to preserve and manage The Bromyard Downs has agreed in principle to put some permanent fencing on the common land.

The Bromyard Downs Common Association's committee agreed that fixed fencing of some type could be put up on areas of the downs, so commoners could graze their livestock safely.

Chairman of the association, James Hawkins, said: "Being a voluntary group, we first need to consult the committee and see if they are happy to go forward.

"We then go to the the commoners, residents, parish council and then Herefordshire Council."

If the idea was met with approval, an application would need to go the secretary of state and there would be a formal public consultation.
