A MASSIVE pile of sofas, white goods and chest of drawers have been dumped in a quiet cul-de-sac in Tolladine.

Fortunately, one eagle-eyed neighbour managed to get the registration number of the van used to flytip the household goods in Mulberry Terrace.

The information has been passed on to Worcester City Council whose civil enforcement officers will also be scouring the dumped goods for evidence of where it came from.

And a council spokeswoman has warned fly-tippers that it will not hesitate to prosecute the perpetrators.

"We received three reports to flytipping in Mulberry Terrace.

"One of those was from a witness who saw the material being dumped.

"They managed to get the vehicle registration number and passed it on to our civil enforcement team who are going to investigate and remove the material.

They will go through it and will be looking for things like bills or anything else with a name on it to link to the person who they think dumped it in the first place.

"We will also be working with the DVLA to trace the vehicle registration."

One man who has lived in the cul-de-sac, off Holly Mount, for just over a year said flytipping is a constant problem in the area.

The resident, who asked not to be named, contacted Nexus Housing about the flytipping: "It's absolutely disgusting.

"There's a couple of fridge freezers, about five or six sofas and mattresses, a divan bed.

"It looks like a house clearance because its all used stuff.

"I spotted it at about 12.15am this morning [Monday] but I didn't see anyone dumping it.

"You've got quite a few houses around here but this cul-de-sac is actually quite quiet.

"I hope it gets removed. We've had problems like this before but this is the biggest I've seen.

"Something needs to be done to stop this kind of thing.

"I've been here a year and it has happened about 15 times, I think it is the same person."

A woman who live in the cul-de-sac said: "I got up this morning and there was just loads and loads of it.

"It's all along the side where people are supposed to park their cars.

"It must have been dumped overnight.

"It's disgusting."

Annette Parsons, housing services manager at Nexus Housing, said: "We were alerted to the fact that several items of furniture had been left on our land at Mulberry Terrace late on Sunday night and arranged for that to be removed first thing on Monday.

"We do not tolerate flytipping on our land and incur additional costs by having to arrange for the items to be taken away.

"We will be taking the necessary steps to identify those responsible so appropriate action can be taken and we continue to work with other agencies, including the council and police, to identify preventative measures we can take to ensure our neighbourhoods are places people can be proud to live.”
