PARALYMPIC heroine Claire Cashmore MBE will officially open a new Kidderminster youth hub at an event celebrating the diverse communities in the district this weekend.

Our Communities Wyred Together will take place on Saturday (January 28) at Youth House, in Bromsgrove Street, and is being organised by Wyre Forest Nightstop, Kidderminster and District Youth Trust, Our Way Youth Advocacy and the Basement Project.

Last year, the groups received a grant of £514,053 from the Big Lottery Fund which has enabled them to develop a Youth Hub, known as Axis – which will be officially opened at 12pm by Kidderminster’s Paralympic swimmer and gold medal winner Claire Cashmore MBE.

Judith Ford, Nightstop CEO, said: “We are very grateful to the Big Lottery for awarding us this grant.

“It is a fantastic opportunity to bring together all members of our community to celebrate the part they play in making the Wyre Forest a great place to live.”

The event, which runs between 12pm and 3pm, is also being made possible by the Big Lottery funding.

There will be food, entertainment and historical information from Polish, Bangladeshi and Filipino community groups, amongst others, while Kidderminster Soroptomist group and Nightstop young volunteers will be demonstrating bread making. Midcounties Co-op will be providing English afternoon teas. Our Way Self Advocacy will also be demonstrating crafts.

There will be entertainment for children with a bouncy castle, face painting and balloon modelling.
