POLICE are under-fire after they were accused of treating car wash staff 'like terrorists' during a raid.

Armed police swooped on the Friendly Hands Car Wash on Evesham High Street last week, after receiving information that the car wash had illegal firearms, class A drugs, not valid immigration certificates and had been money laundering.

CCTV footage from the raid shows one member of staff being dragged along the floor, and a local businessman who uses the car wash said it made him 'ashamed to be British.'

Rod Canning of Vantage Commercials said: "This is not a way to treat foreign workers, they were treated like dogs.

"I cannot believe that this was happening in this country, it made me ashamed to be British.

"The staff were treated like terrorists but they are hard workers, and as you can see in the tape, they were compliant with the police.

"One of them removed his hood to show the police his face, and both had their arms up straight away.

"Police dragged one of the staff along the floor and then kept staff with guns to their heads by the fence for half an hour.

"If they carry on like this they will end up shooting an innocent person."

The owner of the car wash, Bashkim Ademi, known as Adam said: "I have not been able to sleep the way they treated my staff.

"The Evesham police have visited us twice before and treated my staff like kings.

"We have always got on well with the Evesham police, but this time it was the Bromsgrove police and they treated my staff like this."

Talking about the raids, he added: "I have got nothing to hide, anyone can come and look at the CCTV tapes, if I had something to hide I would not contact the newspaper.

West Mercia Police chief inspector David Ashmore said: "This was a successful, pre-planned policing operation and was conducted in conjunction with the National Crime Agency (NCA) and UK Border Agency (UKBA).

"Local officers have carried out reassurance patrols in the area since the warrants were executed and after speaking to members of the public we are confident that there was minimal negative impact on local communities.

"Anyone who is not happy with police actions, or believes that they have not received the service they expect, should contact the Professional Standards Department of Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police.

"A review has been conducted into information that has been brought to our attention and we are satisfied that correct procedures were followed and the officers' behaviour did not fall below the required standard."

Mr Canning, who's company use the car wash for valeting added: "Adam has been here for ten years and has built his business up.

"He had the business on Avon Street and then outgrew it and moved here, spending money building it up and then his staff are treated like that.

"This country should welcome hard workers."

Mr Ademi believes that the raids came as a result of a tip-off from a malicious person with a spite.

Last week, the Evesham Journal reported how the car wash had been raided at 8am on Monday November 28, and one person had been arrested.

The Home Office told the journal that a 26-year-old Albanian man was arrested for entering the UK illegally on a High Street business in Evesham.

He is in immigration detention pending removal from the UK.
