THE town’s pride in Kidderminster golden girl Claire Cashmore’s achievements is not running out of steam as the train station paid its own tribute to her.

London Midland has turned the Kidderminster platform sign gold in honour of the 28-year-old’s success at the Rio Paralympic Games, held last month.

She was part of the women’s 4x100 medley relay team that brought home gold for Team GB. Claire followed that up with a silver in the individual 100m breaststroke.

Kidderminster is one of eight Midland stations which has seen the ‘running in boards’ turned gold in honour of gold medal winning athletes from the area.

The train operator has also launched a programme designed to help sports stars of tomorrow.

“Your Sporting Chance” is aimed at promoting the health and wellbeing of young people by providing sports kit and equipment for youth/junior sports teams, clubs or groups nominated by London Midland employees.

Claire told the Shuttle: “The support I have received has been amazing and it is nice that people got behind me so much while I was in Brazil.

“It is lovely to be recognised for my achievements and it’s a real honour to have a golden board at Kidderminster Train Station.”

London Midland Commercial Director, Richard Brooks added: “We want to celebrate a great summer of sport but we also want to help future sporting stars.

“Your Sporting Chance empowers and encourages our colleagues to get more involved with the 150 communities we serve across the country. We hope the gold running in boards will also inspire more young people too aim for the stars.”
