REDDITCH’S rural outpost of Feckenham is about to be invaded.

There are rustlings and shufflings in the fields as the people of straw prepare for their annual weekend in the lime light.

It’s time for the 11th Feckenham Scarecrow Festival which takes place on Saturday and Sunday, October 1 and 2.

Once again villagers have been asked to have a bit of fun by manufacturing the most frightening, funny or downright ridiculous scarecrows ever seen.

They can make an individual, a group, small or large and all shapes and sizes.

The public are invited to come along and act as judges and there’ll be prizes for the best displays.

A spokesman said: "This isn’t just for kids - it’s for all ages to have fun with.

"Last time there were more than 50 displays ranging from the traditional to the creepy, the poignant to the loony.

"Everyone has a wonderful time making their exhibits and then discovering what everybody else has been up to. It’s expected that there will be even more scarecrows this year."

Because of other commitments villagers took a year off from the event in 2015 but it’s been welcomed back with renewed enthusiasm.

The scarecrow trail starts at the village square (free maps will be available) from 11.30am on both days and closes at 4.30pm.

The results will be announced and prizes awarded on Sunday at 4.30pm on the square.

Feckenham’s only walking, talking, living scarecrow, Willum the Conker, will be on hand to entertain.
