A SLIMMING World group in Catshill helped to fund the renovation of the home of a six-year-old girl with cerebral palsy, by holding their own fundraising version of the Great British Bake Off.

Members made a variety of Slimming World friendly cakes and desserts, to raise much needed funds for Bromsgrove's Caitlyn Speed.

The desserts were then judged in Bake Off style by BBC newsreader Joanne Malin.

Caitlyn's mum Lisa, a former member of the Slimming World group, recently received a grant for works to be completed on the house, but she was still £10,000 short.

The group raised an impressive £1,070, which will help towards the home renovation, to facilitate Caitlyn's growing needs.

Catshill Slimming World consultant Julie Poole said: "The members were really moved by Caitlyn's story and wanted to help, it was their idea to have a Bake off of Slimming World friendly cakes and desserts. We had a fabulous day, with huge attendance from members and local residents.

"24 bakes were submitted for Jo Malin to judge - such a task for her but she did a fabulous job. The cakes were then sold off along with Slimming World homemade savoury dishes and we also held a raffle. It was a great community event to raise money to help Caitlyn ,who is a lovely little girl."
