A DOG warden has been left lost for words at the discovery of a stray dog in Kidderminster, who was found to be nearly blind because his eyes were so scarred.

Watson, who was picked up in Kidderminster earlier this month, had matted hair which his overgrown nails had grown into.

He was also emaciated and so weak he could barely walk when he was found. His eyes had become so infected they were almost glued together.

The dog – believed to be a type of Shih Tzu - was rushed to a vet who bathed and shaved him, and clipped his nails.

Pip Singleton, Worcestershire Regulatory Services animal welfare officer, said: “I have been in this industry for many years and I think I have seen it all, but with Watson, words fail me.

“There is not a word in the dictionary to express the terrible, horrific condition this dog was found in.

“He weighed just five kilos when he came in and the amount of hair we clipped off him was one-and-a-half kilos.

“Whoever can watch a dog suffer like that must be heartless and not only is this incomprehensible, it is costing the taxpayer money.”

Watson is now at an experienced foster home and his veterinary treatment is on-going.

Anyone who cannot cope with a pet or are concerned about the condition of an animal, is asked to call the dog warden service on 01905 822799.
