A MAN arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a stabbing in Worcester has not yet been charged.

West Mercia Police were called to to an address in Battenhall Road at 5.54am on Thursday and detained a 53-year-old suspect.

A police spokesperson said: "A 53-year-old woman was taken to hospital with stab wounds. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

"A 53-year-old man has been arrested. He was also taken to hospital with stab wounds, which are not believed to be suspicious."

At the time of going to press, the arrested man was still in hospital and had not yet been charged.

The Worcester News understands the two are known to each other, and are being cared for in different hospitals.

Battenhall Road neighbours first became aware there was incident in their leafy suburb when they awoke to see a police presence on Thursday morning, (May 26).

A reporter went to the scene and saw two two officers guarding the entrance of the property, which had birthday cards and a balloon in the window.

A Battenhall Road resident, who did not want to be named, said he was shocked to hear about the stabbing.

"It is not sort of thing that I'd expect here," the resident said.

"It is a quiet, calm neighbourhood and you would never imagine something like this could happen.

"It is such a relief to hear that the victim's injuries are not life-threatening."
