POLICE are warning motorists not to try driving through a ford near Pershore, where water levels have risen rapidly.

Officers say that the ford at Walcot Lane is flowing swiftly and on no account should be crossed.

The Environment Agency has issued alerts of possible flooding on the River Avon at Evesham and Bredon.

At 3 pm today, the level at the Evesham gauge was 0.93 metres and rising. A peak level of between 2.6 and 3.1 metres is expected to occur on Sunday afternoon. The level at the Bredon gauge was 1.02 metres and rising. A peak level of between 2.8 and 3.3 metres is expected to occur on Monday morning. The B4080 at Eckington could be affected by flooding.

Flood alerts were also reported for the River Leadon at Bosbury and Bromsberrow, the Bow and Piddle brooks east of Worcester, and the River Frome at Bromyard and Bishops Frome.

However, there are no alerts currently in place for the River Severn.

The Met Office is currently forecasting that the rain will gradually move away to the east to leave dry conditions and clear spells for a time. Occasional showers will then arrive after midnight.

Blustery, showery, weather is expected for Sunday, although with some decent dry and bright spells during the middle of the day. More persistent rain will then arrive by evening.
