FORMER pupils of Dormer House School had a trip down memory lane when the Journal published an old photograph from the 1960s.

Pam Newton, who lives in Stretton-on-Fosse, said she remembered the photograph well and says it was taken around Easter 1964 just before headteacher Freda Isitt, pictured centre, retired.

"I am the third from the left on the back row with an Alice band and I would have been around 13. I have very fond memories of school. I joined there when I was seven and left at 16 to go to college in Stratford to do a course on book-keeping and commerce. I've been looking at my old reports and school books since seeing that photograph."

Francine Harvey - nee Gibson - is also on the photograph with her three sisters and her mother, Simone Gibson, who taught French and German there and who took over as headteacher when Miss Isitt retired.

"We then went to live in the school house. I shared a room at the top of the house with my sister, Nicole.

Mrs Harvey said the family moved to the area when she was 12 and she stayed at the school until she was 18 and then worked in the nursery there.

Mrs Harvey is pictured eighth from the left on the back row and said the article prompted her to visit the school. "It was a very emotional visit," she said. "It had changed a lot but it brought back some fond memories and I got quite tearful at one point."

Her sisters are Nicole, 11th from the left, back row, with Gysele sitting in front of her with the dark hair. Youngest sister, Monique, is pictured seated on the second row, third from the left.

Head girl at that time was Mary Smith, now Keen, who is pictured on the right on the back row. She said Miss Isitt was well respected and a strong believer in the philosophy of Charlotte Mason.

Other names to faces include Mary Peach, first on the left, back row, Naomi Smith, 14th and Penny Peach, 15th.
