A KIDDERMINSTER man convicted of handling valuable cycles has been jailed at Worcester Crown Court for ignoring an order made two years ago.

Mark Harris was given a community order in 2013 and one of the requirements was to attend the Willowdene Care Farm in Shropshire for 25 days.

But 26-year-old Harris, of Worcester Road, Kidderminster, had failed to carry out the instructions of the probation service, said prosecutor William Rickarby.

When he was summoned back to court for breach of the order, his barrister Mark McNamara, submitted that the reason was that Harris was carer of their three-year-old daughter while his partner was at work.

He had also had a personality clash with one of the probation officers.

But Recorder Denis Desmond pointed out that the offence took place in July, 2013, and Harris had failed to attend appointments on four occasions.

He jailed Harris for 21 weeks and ordered him to pay a court charge of £150 and a victim surcharge of £100.

Mr Rickarby said Harris was arrested after police set a trap once the four cycles, worth £1,800, had been reported stolen.

A meeting was arranged at Frankley service station near Halesowen and Harris was found with other men and the stolen machines in a van.
