A HORSE was rescued by firefighters from the muddy riverbed of the Severn in Northwick this morning.

The Water Rescue Team from Worcester waded out to the stranded horse and managed to free it after they received a call at just after 8.40am.

The caller, thought to be the horse's owner, said it had wandered into the river near to the stables on Old Northwick Lane and was stranded.

It was near to the riverbank but was stuck in mud but the riverbank was extremely steep and people could not get to the stranded animal.

After the horse was freed from the mud, it was led further down the river to safety and is believed to have not been injured during the incident.

Firefighters were at the riverside for 30 minutes.
