A COMMUNITY hub could be created in Leominster.

The town council is looking to purchase the former home of the Citizens Advice Bureau and info centre in Corn Square, and has resolved to make a formal offer for the building.

It is hoped it would be a community hub with a local focus and would possibly be shared by a number of local organisations.

Paul Russell, Leominster Town Council's clerk, said the town council had resolved to put in an offer for the building with Herefordshire Council, subject to securing external funding from the public works board and subject to the development of a business plan.

"There is a lot to think about so we have submitted an offer and we'll wait to see whether that's accepted by Herefordshire Council and we'll wait to see whether our loan request is accepted and if it is and if everything else stacks up we will hopefully be purchasing the building,” he said.

"We would obviously be looking at it not being just for the town council but looking at options to fill the building and make all the sums add up and if they don't add up then we probably can't buy it but if they do then hopefully we will have a community hub with a very local focus."

The town council plans to consult with potential users about whether they are interested in using the building and making it cost neutral to the tax-payer.
