IT seems another Aldi store is on the cards for Worcester, it has been revealed.

When contacted, a representative from Aldi confirmed deals have been done for a branch of the budget supermarket to move onto Bath Road, in place of the empty Homebase DIY store.

A spokeswoman for Aldi said: "All I can confirm is that we have exchanged contracts with Homebase for the Bath Road store."

The store, in St peter's, closed its doors on April 19, last year, at the expense of 30 jobs.

Homebase were contacted but remained unavailable for comment.

It comes as a shock revelation as it seemed a branch of the German giant would first be opening up on Tybridge Street, in St John's.

Back in February, your Worcester News reported that the move could be on the cards with Aldi moving into the premises occupied by PC World.

At the time, Aldi issued a no comment when asked if they plan to move there, and when asked if that site is still sought despite making plans to move to Worcester Road, the store remained tight lipped once again.

Speculation regarding the Tybridge Street move was fuelled by PC World stating its store could be on the move as part of a national refurbishment and relocation scheme to create more exciting experience for its customers.

In February, a spokesman for Currys PC World said: "We have a nationwide programme of refitting and, in certain instances, relocating Currys and PC World stores to make them easier and more exciting places for customers to shop.

“We are considering various options in the Worcester area but there is no further update at this time."

When asked if a relocation of the store was still on the cards, a spokesman for the company said "there was no update" leaving the mystery unsolved as to whether St John's will be home to an Aldi store in the future.

There is currently an Aldi store in Pheasant Street, Lowesmoor.
