A POPULAR Ledbury tradition is forming, as details are announced for the town's third "Big Breakfast" event.

The two day celebration of local fare will take place on Friday, January 30 and Saturday, January 31, and participants are being asked to come up with a special dish or offer local produce, to help bring the crowds to local butchers, cafes, hotels, shops, pubs and restaurants.

Event spokesman, Griff Holliday, of the Ledbury Food Group said: "This is a special event for Ledbury and its residents, and it helps to keep Ledbury alive at a quiet time of year.

"We will be confirming participants in early January when all the participants have recovered from a, hopefully, very successful Christmas."

Last year's event saw twenty local businesses taking part.

Mr Holliday said: "We hope to have at least that many again this year, and we hope some businesses will open at 8am on the Friday, for people who want a breakfast before work."

Ledbury Food Group hopes the event will help to publicise "local producers whose produce is used in their special offering, making the connection from field to fork".

Mr Holliday said: "That's always a good challenge for our butchers and cafes.

"We had everything at the last event from devilled kidneys to the Full Monty sausage, plus breakfast ice cream and a special 'design your sausage' competition."

This alone attracted 150 entries, showing the popularity of the event.

Ledbury Food Group organises the event as part of national Breakfast Week, which in turn is organised by the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board.
