WYTHALL Radio Club will soon be transmitting to the wider area, thanks to the generosity of a local company.
The club has become the latest beneficiary of a community grant from Western Power Distribution.
The energy group helps to support the community and Wythall Radio Club had just announced plans to set up a new relay station which will be known as GB3WL.
GB3WL will be housed in a cellar and safe from many natural disasters – it therefore has the potential to be a useful communications relay in the event of an emergency anywhere across the West Midlands area.
When Western Power Distribution heard about the club’s plans, it quickly approved a grant of nearly £250 to purchase the commercial quality antennas which were needed for the project.
Wythall Radio Club chairman Mike Pugh said: “We are delighted to be able to purchase the highest quality antenna possible for GB3WL.
"It gives the relay station the potential to be used for emergency communications across Worcestershire and the West Midlands should something unexpected happen, so it is a great investment.”
GB3WL will go on air just as soon as final clearance arrives from OFCOM. More information can be found at wythallradioclub.co.uk.
