FAMILIES can step back in time this weekend with the return of the free 1940s event at Wordsley's Red House Glass Cone.

To set the scene, the Victorian Westerners will be parading around the site dressed as soldiers, munitions workers and glamorous ladies keeping up their families spirits on the Home Front.

Visitors wanting to join them and get into the swing of things during the two day event, can enjoy a 1940s makeover for £6, between 12noon and 3pm each day.

People can also browse vintage stalls, classic cars and the cone’s own WWII exhibition and watch glassmaking demonstrations in the hot glass studio.

There will be live music with Linda Mae performing music from the 1940s on Saturday (July 26) and Lynn Dawes performing songs from the era on Sunday (July 27) - both performances will run from 1.30pm to 3pm.

Councillor Hilary Bills, cabinet member for environment and culture said: “Last year’s 1940s weekend was hugely popular, with visitors enjoying the energy and glamour of the performances.

“I’m sure that this weekend’s line-up, with costumed re-enactors, 1940s style makeovers and vintage vehicle displays will prove thoroughly entertaining for audiences young and old.”
