THE Conservatives at Stratford District Council are celebrating after winning 15 out of 18 seats up for grabs at the polls.

Overall turnout at yesterday's election - which saw 71 candidates contest 18 seats - was 40.5 per cent.

Conservative Daren Pemberton won the Bidford and Salford seat with 958 votes, beating UKIP's Neil Lawrence who won 569 votes.

Fellow conservative Philip Seccombe won the Brailes seat with 580 votes and Stephen Gray, also conservative, won the seat in Long Compton with a large majority of 467 votes.

The Council's 53 seats are made up of 35 conservatives, 12 Liberal Democrats, one Labour, two independents, two Stratford First Independent with one vacancy (Southam).
