DUDLEY air cadets are celebrating after winning top honours in a gruelling competition at a four-day West Mercian Wing camp.

The cadets, from Dudley Air Training Corps, took part in a competition to test fieldcraft skills at Sennybridge Training Area, South Wales, during the Easter bank holiday.

The competition, between nine squadrons from the wing, included No1 (Akrotiri) Cyprus Squadron, the overseas squadron attached to West Mercian Wing.

Cadets were tested on a number of skills including reconnaissance, casualty evacuation and running a vehicle check point.

Competition was fierce and the Dudley group were only confirmed as victorious after completing the final test, a five kilometre run across rough terrain.

A spokesperson from Dudley ATC said: “This camp was organised by Dudley Squadron and taking into account both competing and training camps there were over 100 cadets and 30 plus members of staff.

“Upon talking to many of cadets from the camp it is safe to say that many attendees thoroughly enjoyed the camp and are more than looking forward to attending next year.”
