A nine-year-old girl has been hit over the head with a bottle in an apparent random attack by a drunk man.
The girl was walking home from the Asda supermarket in Govan, Glasgow at around 6pm on Friday when the man bottled her.
He ran off in the direction of Drumoyne, police said.
The girl was tended to by members of the public who alerted the police. She was then taken to Yorkhill Hospital by ambulance for treatment to her head.
Strathclyde Police say they are treating the matter as a serious assault.
The man was wearing a grey tracksuit and appeared to have been drinking alcohol.
Detective Inspector Scott McMillan, of Helen Street CID, said: "This was an unprovoked attack on an innocent young girl who was simply making her way home from the local shop. We are continuing extensive inquiries and would like to reassure the local community we are doing all we can to identify the person responsible."
