Warwickshire Police crackdown on domestic burglaries

THE police’s fight against burglaries in Shipston and throughout Stratford district has been so successful that no such crimes were reported there for a nine-day period.

Also, no burglaries were reported throughout the whole of Warwickshire during the 24 hours between Thursday, June 25 and Friday, June 26.

Warwickshire Police attributed their success to proactive operations and the arrests of prolific offenders during the past two months.

The force says reducing domestic burglaries is one of its priorities during 2009/2010.

Detective Inspector Mark Davison, of the force’s Offender Management Unit (OMU), said: "I am delighted with these results.

“Warwickshire Police is committed to tackling burglary and those responsible as one of its key priorities this year and it is clear that the action we have already taken is having an impact.

"We must not be complacent - there is still work to be done but this is extremely positive to know that many people living in Warwickshire have been protected against being the victim of burglary.

"We have used a mixture of high-visibility policing and covert tactics, as well as targeting those offenders who are involved in serious acquisitive crime such as burglary, and this is ongoing.

"We will continue to do all in our power to reduce the number of domestic burglaries in Warwickshire and bring those responsible to justice as part of our commitment to better protect the community from harm."

The nine-day period also brought only four burglaries in Warwick district and North Warwickshire borough.

The other two boroughs served by the force, Rugby and Nuneaton and Bedworth, had nine and ten burglaries respectively.
