Electric blanket testing
5:00pm Thursday 30th August 2012 in News
IT MAY still be summer but Chipping Norton residents are being urged to sign up to get their electric blankets tested.
Free testing sessions are being held in the autumn by West Oxfordshire District Council in conjunction with Oxfordshire County Council’s trading standards and fire and rescue service.
A session will take place in Chipping Norton on Friday, October 26, and interested residents need to book in advance.
Last year, 204 electric blankets were tested at sessions in West Oxfordshire and nearly a third were found to be unsafe.
District councillor David Harvey said: “I hope that people will take advantage of this free testing service.
“Faulty blankets are a common cause of fires and anyone with a blanket that is more than 10 years old, or showing signs of wear, should get a new one.”
Bookings can be made online via westoxon.gov.
