CHILDREN at Swell Primary School have been learning about the importance of the potato. Youngsters in Year Two took part in the national Potato Council project which is being sponsored by The Sun newspaper. The children received their potato growing kit and put the seed potatoes in an egg box for chitting – encouraging them to sprout – then planted them in two sacks. Pupils have watered and added compost to their potato crop and were thrilled to harvest 1.75kgs from their two small sacks. Pictured are Frankie Kelly and Sophie Cater, both aged seven.
