Trapped horse rescued
A HORSE had to be rescued after it became trapped in its box near Winchcombe.
Firefighters were called just before 11am this morning to the B4077, in Stanway, after the animal became trapped in its horse box while it was in transit.
A crew from Winchcombe fire station attended and a further a further crew and specialist rescue appliance from the Gloucester North Fire station were called to help with the rescue.
The horse had been sedated to allow fire-fighters to dismantle the box and safely release the horse which was then moved to safety to a nearby field where the vet could then do a thorough examination.
Luckily the horse was not badly injured and suffered some minor cuts in the incident.
Speaking after the incident, Crew Commander Woodward said that the horse had become agitated while it was in transit and had managed to kick through the bottom of the horse box trapping both its front legs.
“Luckily, an observant driver behind the box noticed this and was able to flag down the driver of the horse box and get them to stop,” he said.
