Stadium name to be announced

THE name of Evesham United FC’s new stadium is expected to be announced next week – and the new ground will be opened by a former Premiership manager.

Robins chairman Jim Cockerton is set to announce the name of the stadium on Cheltenham Road early next week.

What to call the ground has caught the attention of many Journal readers who have put forward suggestions for the club to consider, although officials have also been talking to businesses who may be interested in sponsoring the stadium.

The stadium and club facilities were all completed months ago but the lack of a suitable access road has delayed the opening.

The road is expected to be completed on Friday, June 29, meaning the club will finally be able to move in.

Meanwhile, it has also been announced that the stadium will be officially opened by Ron Atkinson on Saturday, July 7, before Evesham United take on a Manchester United Legends team. The former Manchester United and Aston Villa manager will be watching the game that kicks off at 2.30pm.

• As soon as an announcement is made, the Journal will cover the news on our website and in next week’s paper.
