WOULD-BE musicians in Gloucestershire are being invited to find out more about making music in the county.

The county music service is holding an Open Music Week next month when it will open the doors of its music centres across the county, including the one in the north Cotswolds.

The event, from Monday, October 11 until Saturday, October 16, is aimed at giving students, potential students, parents and carers a chance to visit any of Gloucestershire Music’s groups, either to join in a rehearsal or to watch and enjoy the music.

Gloucestershire Music organises regular youth and adult music groups and choirs as well as day events and music courses throughout the year.

Area and county groups offer a challenge for advanced students and rehearse weekly. Adult groups cater for a range of abilities, including starter strings, learn as you play wind bands and jazz ensembles.

Steve Legge, Assistant Head of Gloucestershire Music, said: “We provide an exciting range of rehearsal and performance opportunities for musicians of all ages and abilities.

“We’ve had some great successes, including three of our groups performing at the national festival of Music for Youth at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham this year. Why not come along to our open music week and see how you could get involved?”
