A COTSWOLD artist has joined forces with Chipping Norton School to launch a poetry competition for a new book.

Irene Tyack, famed for her Yellow Hat Tribe paintings, has challenged pupils at Chipping Norton and its nine feeder schools, to put together poems based on 12 of her distinctive paintings.

A collection of shortlisted poems will then be published and proceeds from sales will go to Chipping Norton School’s chosen charity, Imingcangathelo School in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.

Two winners selected from the shortlist will each receive an original painted by Ms Tyack, who officially opened the school’s newly built art block last year.

Headteacher Simon Duffy said: The facilities we now have are outstanding and the quality of work produced reflects this.

“Students and staff tell me they love the spaces and this is clear to see on the faces of young people working in them.

“This joint venture gives students a wonderful opportunity to write between four and forty lines linked to one of Irene’s unique paintings. It is a great chance to showcase some of our budding poets and writers.”

The closing date for entries is September 21.

The resulting book will be published over October half term and officially launched at Jaffe & Neale Bookshop and Cafe.
