Plugs save Cotswold District Council money and energy

COTSWOLD District Council will annually save £2,500 and 19 tonnes of CO2 by fitting PowerDown plugs at its computer stations.

The plugs, fitted under an initiative supported by Severn Wye Energy Agency (SWEA), cut the energy computers consume when not in use and also reduce fire risk.

SWEA gave the council the devices for free.

Kirsty Merritt, council climate change and carbon management officer, said the plugs would help the authority achieve its aim to cut its carbon emissions by 25 per cent by 2015.

She said: ”I would like to thank Severn Wye Energy Agency for helping us along the way.”
