JOY Gaze, the deputy head of microbiology at Campden BRI, has been awarded the US-based Grocery Manufacturers Association Food Safety Award in recognition of her outstanding contribution to food safety.
It will be presented to Joy (pictured) together with a cheque for $3,000, at the International Association for Food Protection meeting in Texas next month.
Known internationally as an expert in thermal microbiology, she is regularly consulted by government agencies and food manufacturers worldwide, having obtained extensive scientific date to ensure the safety of many foods.
In over 30 years at the food research centre in Chipping Campden, she has trained thousands of food industry personnel from all over the world and, in 2006, was awarded the Heinz Travelling Scholarship for scientific and technical excellence.
Mike Stringer, Campden BRI’s director of food technology, said: “The award further enhances our reputation for scientific excellence here in the UK and internationally and I am very pleased Joy has won it.
“It is one of the top awards for food safety in our industry and recognises the huge advances Joy and her team have made to ensure the food we eat is as safe as possible.”
