BUDDING young writers and photographers put their creative skills to the test as part of a rotary club competition.

The North Cotswolds Rotary Club joined forces with The Cotswold School, in Bourton-on-the-Water, for its Rotary Young Photographer and Rotary Young Writer competitions.

Entrants were tasked with writing a 500 word piece, or submitting three photographs, based around the theme of 'reflection'.

Rotarian Mike Boyes said: "Several of the young writers composed short stories around the idea of a mirror as a reflection of life.

"Another highly original approach observed life through the prism of a drop of water. Then there was a beautifully descriptive piece about a peaceful meadow, a place for reflection, a place to consider promises made and promises broken."

The winner of the intermediate group - ages 11 to 13 - for the writing contest was Eleanor Plater, aged 13, with Mariola Rosser coming in second and Dolly Forrester in third. The winner of the senior age group was Rosie Bowers.

Winning the photography competition for the intermediate group was Megan McMorris, aged 12, with Oliver Price, aged 11, in second place and Saskia Holmes, aged 13, in third.

There were two joint winners in the senior age group – Rob Austin, aged 15, and Sam Alvis, aged 16. In third place was Alexandra Martin.
