AN application for the building of seven homes in Stow-On-The-Wold near Morten-in-Marsh, has been give the green light by Cotswold councillors.

The application for the building of the properties at Ashton House, in Union Street, was submitted by Spitfire Properties and was discussed at Cotswold District Council's latest planning committee meeting held on November 9.

The site was once occupied by a vacant 1970s care home building, which was demolished to make way for a previous planned scheme to build 20 homes, which was granted in 2015 but did not come to fruition.

The new application had been recommended for approval by officers, despite seven letters of objection being received.

The letters raised various grounds for objection including that the buildings are too high, there would be visual intrusion into neighbours gardens, and it would result in a transformation of the skyline, being more built up then before.

But the officers report says the design and appearance of the revised scheme was "acceptable" and pointed out the previous care home building at the site, before being demolished, was 9.2 metres higher than the proposed new buildings.

The officer's report concludes: "Overall, it is considered that the development now proposed is of an acceptable size and design.

"It is also considered not to have a greater impact on residential amenity than the scheme approved in 2015."

After considering the scheme, councillors voted to give permission for the scheme to go ahead.
