GENEROUS bed and breakfast owners are offering veterans and serving military personnel free accommodation this Remembrance weekend.

Inspired by a similar programme in America, establishments in the Cotswolds and Worcestershire are taking part in a scheme called Thanking Our Forces.

Brymbo, near Chipping Campden, Bran Mill Cottage, near Moreton-in-Marsh, Bowers Hill Farm, near Willersey, and Prydee in Honeybourne, will all offer at least one night's stay for free this weekend.

Gené Jeffrey, of Brymbo B&B, said: "We just thought it is a nice thing to make an offer to show that we appreciate people. Especially because it is around Remembrance Sunday weekend.

"We just recognise what the military do and what they go through. We do not hear a lot about what they go through.

"It is just a way of us saying thank you."

The scheme was founded in America, where it is called B&Bs for Vets, by Kathleen Panek in 2008.

"It’s truly inspiring to see the B&Bs for Vets program grow from just one innkeeper organising the effort to hundreds of innkeepers throughout the world jumping on board to offer thanks to veterans for their service," she said. "We hope to make this a world-wide program in the future."

More than 100 premises in the UK, USA and Canada are offering free rooms to active and retired military personnel over Remembrance weekend.

Across the north Cotswolds, Remembrance Sunday services will be held in Stow-on-the-Wold, Moreton, Bourton-on-the-Water, Chipping Campden, Blockley, Chipping Norton, Winchcombe and Bourton.

To reserve a room, contact the B&B directly and proof of military service is required. To see a full list of the B&Bs taking part visit bedposts.org.uk/Thanking-our-Forces-accommodation-list.pdf
