A COTSWOLD playgroup hopes it has hit upon the winning ticket after launching a 'big raffle' to raise much-needed funds.

Staff at Condicote Playgroup say they have been "overwhelmed" by the generosity of local people after an appeal for support saw a bumper crop of prizes donated by local businesses.

Prizes up for grabs in the raffle include a four star weekend for two in London, tickets for four to Warwick Racecourse and more than 50 others.

Kerry Bolam, of the playgroup, said the idea for the raffle came after several items were kindly donated.

"We decided we would use these items as the catalyst to organise a raffle and we planned to contact at least 50 businesses in the local area seeking donations," she said.

"We have been overwhelmed and thrilled at the response we have received."

The playgroup, established in 1968, is a registered charity and relies on local support as well as the fundraising efforts of dedicated parents and committee members to keep it going.

It is hoped that proceeds from the raffle will help purchase new IT equipment.

"We identified that we would like to buy an iPad and renew our laptop so that the children can partake in interactive learning, capture photos and make short videos," Kerry said. "In this climate it is becoming harder and harder to raise funds as we understand and appreciate that everywhere you turn there are very worthy causes seeking support."

The raffle will be drawn on Sunday, September 18 at Condicote Village Hall.
