HUNDREDS of people - including a very special celebrity visitor - flocked to a traditional community fair in the Cotswolds at the weekend.

Actress Penelope Keith, best known for her roles in sitcoms The Good Life and To the Manor Born, visited the Ebrington Fete to film for her Channel Four series 'Hidden Villages'.

As well as getting lots of footage, she spent time looking around the fete and talking to local people, as well as enjoying lunch at the Ebrington Arms.

Claire Alexander, landlady of the Ebrington Arms, said: "Drones were spotted filming around the village all day and Penelope loved Ebrington and all it had to offer.

"After dining in The Ebrington Arms, she headed up to the fete where she spent a lot of time with local lady Clare Ambler, who was running the dog show.

"They discussed the village as a ‘hidden Cotswolds gem’ and that it had all the ingredients for a thriving village, including a strong community, village hall, a hub at the local pub and of course a fantastic primary school."

The fete has been hailed as a big success by organisers, with about 1,000 people turning up and enjoying a host of attractions, including classic car and vintage tractor displays, an assault course for children organised by Ebrington Primary School PTFA, stalls, music and refreshments.

It is hoped that around £5,000 will be raised for the village church and local groups and charities.

"The spirit around Ebrington is quite unique and every year the locals are very happy that such a small village can draw such a big crowd," said Mrs Alexander. "It’s a truly great community effort, everyone pitches in and I guess that’s what theHidden Village film crew wanted to capture."

The footage from Ebrington is set to be aired later this year.
