THE enchanting gardens of Barton House are taking part in the National Gardens Scheme and are guaranteed to delight everyone who enjoys gardens and stunning views.

The gates will be open on Sunday May 29 between 2pm and 6pm and visitors can wander among the many features.

The six-and-half acres of woodland garden, at Barton-on-the-Heath, near Moreton, include a Japanese garden planted on the site of the owner, Hamish Cathie's late mother's apple orchard. Elsewhere there is an abundance of rhododenrons and azaeleas, statuary featuring ancient Indian, Egyptian and Green mythologies, a vineyard with free wine tasting, secret rose, kitchen and walled gardens to explore. There are also views to Long Compton Church.

There are many rare trees on the estate including a 550-year-old Spanish chestnut and Serbian spruces known as The Three Witches by the Elizabethan Manor's former housekeeper.

Home made refreshments will be served in the coach house.

Admission is £5 for adults and children free.
